About me...

Photobucket

Hello and greetings, My name is cliff.  I started this blog with the idea that most  of us while in high school really wanted to know what our government teacher thought, and now that I am one, I decided that I should put my thoughts down, so that you can see what your, or a, government teacher really thinks! And yes, I do teach high school government!

Unify this

First let's listen to this....

What irritates me about Mr. Obama is this talk about unifying the country. I find it deceptive and naive to think that simply being elected and giving great speeches can unify the nation. The problem with Mr. Obama is that he is all flash and little substance. This is not to say that he is not smart, he is a very smart man, but he is naive if he thinks that oratory can unify a nation. Oratory does not achieve great things, it can only set great goals; it's hard work, good policy, and finally good implementation that achieves them. Do you remember when JFK to said we'd go to the moon? I am sure you think that was important, and it was, but it didn't get us to the moon. To say that JFK's speech got us to the moon is kind of like saying we hitched a ride on the cow as she jumped over. What got us to the moon was determination, good science, and hard work.

This being said, Mr. Obama only really gives lip service to the notion that there are real divisions between Americans. Obama wants to unify us - he wants to end partisan rancor and discord. I have hope that he can accomplish this, we don't have to agree to be civil, but as far as unifying Americans and bringing competing ideologies closer together? That he cannot do in my estimation. The reason I say this is because he has his own ideology, and it is clearly to the left. It's idiotic to believe you can get right wingers digging socialized medicine because he gave a great speech. If  Mr. Obama wins and gets to Washington I think he will soon realize that his cries to unify the nation will be like pissing in the wind.

Do you remember those five questions many of your teachers taught you? What, when, where, why and how?  Well I would love to ask Mr. Obama, HOW?!!!!!!
